Change in the Amount Poured as a Result of Vibration When Pouring a Liquid

چکیده
Visual and tactile stimulation are known to affect the experience of eating and drinking. In this study, we focused on the vibration of a Japanese Sake bottle when used to pour liquid. We manufactured a device that can be attached to the neck of any plastic bottle and investigated how beverage consumption was affected by the vibration. We found that presentation of the vibration affected the amount of poured beverage when visual and sound cues were masked.

Audio-Haptic Rendering of Water Being Poured from Sake Bottle
The impression of food can be affected by “rendition”—i.e., the surrounding environment such as the appearance of the food and the dish—not just by its taste. We focused on the sound and vibration of liquid being poured from a Japanese Sake bottle as a haptic rendition of liquid. Sake bottles are known for their unique “glug” sound and vibration which we believe affects the subjective impressio...
متن کاملIs the Glass Half Full or Half Empty? How to Reverse the Effect of Glass Elongation on the Volume Poured
To reduce the volume of drinks and the risk of overconsumption, health professionals recommend the use of tall skinny instead of short wide glasses. Yet the results of the present study contradict this health advice. Participants who generously filled up a glass with lemonade served 9% more in tall narrow compared with short wide glasses (p<0.05). In addition, when pouring a small amount (i.e.,...
متن کاملThe Parameters Investigation and Hardness Optimization of A380 Aluminum Alloy produced by Mechanical Vibrator
The use of aluminum alloys in various industries, especially the automotive industries, to have less structural weight, is on the rise. The use of semi-solid forming process in addition to changes in the microstructure which improves the mechanical properties can reduce the volume of production and ultimately lead to the improvement of the structural weight. In this paper, optimization of the g...
متن کاملShape of glass and amount of alcohol poured: comparative study of effect of practice and concentration.
OBJECTIVE To determine whether people pour different amounts into short, wide glasses than into tall, slender ones. DESIGN College students practised pouring alcohol into a standard glass before pouring into larger glasses; bartenders poured alcohol for four mixed drinks either with no instructions or after being told to take their time. SETTING University town and large city, United States...
متن کاملFluid-structure Interaction Vibration Analysis of Vertical Cylindrical Containers with Elastic Bottom Plate Made of Functionally Graded Materials
In the present paper a method is proposed to investigate the free vibration of a partially liquid-filled cylindrical tank. The mechanical properties of the container are assumed to change continuously along the thickness according to volume fraction Power-law, Sigmoid or Exponential distribution. The liquid is supposed to be incompressible and in viscid and its velocity potential is formulated ...
